A valley inside the city.
Forty-three acres with a hall for 130, heated all year, above a lawn and a lake. No road or neighbour is within earshot. Most summer afternoons a ski boat is on the water, and guests tend to watch. Everything is set for one couple at a time.

Arriving
The road drops into the valley.
The land runs level, then drops away. The lake lies along the valley floor, the hall stands above it under a steep dark roof, and spruce runs down both slopes. Guests see all of it before they park. There is no road noise and no neighbour.

Four thousand square feet under one roof, nine-foot ceilings, timber posts. If it rains, the ceremony moves in here.

Wrapped around three sides of the hall, facing the water and the west.
